Belize City: Tour by Horse-drawn Carriage

Slowly but surely I will be posting things from my cruise in May.

One of my favorite places to stop is Belize!  This country is extremely diverse in possible shore excursions when your cruise ship arrives. Cave tubing, ancient ruins, city tours, submarines, zip lines... you name it and you can probably find it here.

For those of you who spent all your money just taking the cruise, relax!  There are cheap excursions you can do here.  My group of 4 did a horse drawn carriage ride around the city.  It was about an hour, hour and a half long and was $30 for the 4 of us.  That was a pretty good deal, considering the same type of excursion through a cruise line would be $30 per person.

Check out the video below for pictures taken during the excursion and for photos around the dock that cruise line guests get to enjoy while in Belize City.

Enjoy!

  1. Would you share how you booked this for $30 for 4?

    1. Of course :) We didn't book it through the cruise or any agency. We went to where the tours were leaving from (aka where all the horses are at) and every carriage we passed, they would say "We have the best price!" and eventually got it for $30. They want your business, so just be patient and act a bit like a hard sell. Don't be too eager. Hope this helps!

  2. Is the close to the pier where the tenders drop you off from the cruise ships?

    1. Sorry I did not get an email about this comment. Which part would you like to know if it's close to the tender drop off? I think you can easily walk to the little belize sign, but the bigger one it's harder to get to. The horse tour really is a cheap way to see a lot.

  4. the only issue with NOT booking with the Cruise Ship line is if you happen to be late, they will not wait. However, if you DO book with the Cruise Ship, they WILL wait. Otherwise, the ship and crew have NO IDEA where you are on the island!

    1. That's true! I've heard that cruise lines like to cause fear in passengers by making them think if they don't book the more expensive tour with the cruise, this is what will happen. I tend to book shorter excursions without the cruise, and longer ones with the cruise.

  9. Do make your carriage is not overloaded .They are only small horses and are not really suitable for pulling large amounts of people . The rule of thumb is one person per wheel .
